Noel is a Yorkie and the mama to the two Morkies I posted earlier. She is the best little mommy, always doting over her babies, who are now 12 years old, by the way. Doesn't matter how old they get we mamas never stop fussing over our young 'uns! This 5 x 7 is done in white and black charcoal with some pastel pencil for the coloring in her face.
Browning is the sweet pet of my friend Melissa, who asked me to do this portrait because she just simply loves him so much. Sometimes people think, 'oh it's just a dog' and that's just so wrong. Our pets are our family, devoted and steadfast. Not only that, they help us get through some of the toughest times in our lives. How can you not fall in love with Browning?
Gosh. This photo was sent to me from my friend, Maureen, who commissioned this portrait for a gift. This little dog, Dixie, passed away and Maureen had this portrait done as a gift for Dixie's humans because losing their dog was so devastating. I think that was a very thoughtful gesture, and I hope it is providing them comfort to have this portrait in their home. This really means a lot to me. This has been an unexpected benefit I have received from doing these portraits. I am so pleased that someone really gets comfort or joy from their portrait hanging in their home.
Progress shots of the dachshund-German shepherd mix commission. I had to work on this little guy quite a bit to get him right...you don't run across many of those breed combinations! Notice that the last photo has the snout corrected to be narrower than the previous photos! Thanks to my friend, Monica for working with me to get it right! I wanted the recipient of this gift to be pleased.
Based in Birmingham, AL, I love creating portraits in charcoal and pastels. Join me on my creative journey, inspired by the people, places, and pets I've met along the way!
